No 98 in my series of questions in headlines to which the answer is No. Janet Daley, whom I like and admire, asks this offensive and unnecessary question on her Telegraph blog today.
It is a standard refuge of the over-expressive commentator. It was offensive and unnecessary when Matthew Parris asked it of Tony Blair in 2003, "Are we witnessing the madness of Tony Blair?" (An early variant of: "I do not agree with invading Iraq. No, I mean I really do not agree with the war.") That was about Number Minus 42 in my series, which started with The Independent's front page of 29 January 2004: "The Hutton Report: A Special Issue - Whitewash?"
It is always offensive and unnecessary, but in this case, of Brown's expectation that the G20 meeting would reach a constructive agreement, it seems simply ... well, Hopi Sen draws the obvious - offensive and unnecessary - conclusion.
